43 Izhevsk M44 Trials Rifle

Post by Miller Tyme »

This is Izhevsk M44 one of the 50,000 production trials rifles made in 1943 for field trials as the replacement for the M38 and to a lesser extent the 91/30. The Russian military found it needed a shorter rifle for house to house fighting as the 91/30 proved very unweilding in this role with or without it's bayonet attached, and the M38 was never designed to accept the 91/30's bayonet there for was not consider suitable for front line service, hence the M38 was redesigned with a folding bayonet and became the M44, a rifle that could be used in the front lines as well as in the rear eschlons.

This 43 M44 has been refurbed but it is all stamped numbers matching, all Izhevsk parts and has a great bore that is non-counterbored bore.
