Marlin Range Report

Post by Mike »

Image

I took the two new Marlins with me today and sighted the scopes in.I managed to run 2 18 round tubes through the 60 before the better half took it over and announced she liked it. I'm fine with that though, I was worried she'd want to take over the 795 but she prefers the classic 60. :D

Then I played with the 795, I got it sighted in pretty quickly and started playing. I bought this rifle with the idea that I want to try CMP Rimfire Sporter competition, I used to shoot match as a kid and want to try again.

Rimfire sporter involves shooting a 1.5" ten-ring prone and sitting or kneeling at 50 yards and standing at 25 yards. Today I practiced at 25 yards, offhand shooting, no support and no sling wrapped around the arm. This was my final target, 10 shots.

I'm very happy with that, practice should tighten those groups up.

Nice day. We got one of the 795's in the shop a while back. I fell in lust for it, it just felt great. I would have bought it but I still have to shoot my Marlin 60 I got in 1985 and have never shot.

Nice shooting!

I love how light the 795 is.

Its amazing picking it up after holding another rifle. Its a huge difference. I've been thinking about doing a self camo job on the black stock or even just to change the color. Might spice it up a bit :)

No. Sorry it was a gift. I just seem to grab another .22 when I go shooting. I have several and some are closer to the door that that one.

Next time you go, grab the Marlin, you will not regret it.

I have been shooting the Marlin 60 for at least 20 years, excellent little rifle, they rarely have any problems.

My friend owns one from the '80's and I've fired it. I couldn't get him to sell it at... uh... gunpoint...?

Sweet rifles, though. So are the bolt action model 25's. I can't brag enough about that rifle.

I hear nothing but good about the 25, I want a bolt action .22 so I may have to hunt for one of them, or possibly a Model 15, I like the idea of the simplicity of a single shot.

Nice, I love my 795, its a great rifle. It will do in the ballpark of 1.5MOA at 50 yards off a bag if I do my part. I'd be shooting it a lot more these days if 22LR were easier to find.

As far as I know Marlin still sells the Model 60 brand new.

Yeah the model 60 is still being sold new. I would imagine its one of their best sellers. The prices arent too bad and quality looks pretty good still from the ones Ive seen.

I have one, I fixed a minor trigger problem in another and gave it to a friend, he will be shooting it next weekend.
