Springfield Armory 1892, this rifle is a New York State Guard rifle, was carried by a member of the 71st NY to Cuba in 1898. Spotless bore, it has the front sight hood and pistol grip attatchment, with a 45/70/500 load it will pick the eyes out of a knat at 200 yards or longer.

No, it slides out and locks to work as a bayonet, and will pull all the way out to use as a cleaning rod.

The sight hood and attached pistol grip are not ordinary issue, this was a marksmans rifle.
