Questions about buying Ammo

Post by zedteamk2 »

I'm looking to pick up some military surplus ammo.
I dont think anyone has any locally, so it looks like i will be buying online.
Any suggestions on who to buy from?

Cheapest i have found is usacsales.com at about $115 per 440 shipped, but i have never heard of them.

2nd place goes to calssic firearms, cheaper than dirt and the happy gunner, all at about $140 / 440 shipped.
i am familiar with these places and have no problems ordering from them.

Any other places you would suggest? opinions on the above?
Thanks

gun deals ( Weldonhunters site) would be the best place to start.

I think Century's non-dealer cost is better than Classic's and wouldn't buy a thing from Cheaper Than Dirt.

Do not buy from expensive as gold,i mean cheaper than dirt.

Widener's shows Russian and Bulgarian 880rd cases in stock for $199, http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm? ... 18|830|853 I've bought cases from them before, shipping to me in Va runs 32 bucks or so on the wooden 880 rd case.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Classic Arms or Cheaper Than Dirt, they have some nasty tactics in my book.

and adding to the price gouging, one of the two had really Classic  crappy customer service and that was the end :very mad:

They have nothing I can't get and wouldn't gladly pay a little more elsewhere for just to avoid them.

It is about a hour drive for me to visit Military Gun Supply in Fort Worth, but they sell the spam cans of Bulgarian for 109.95. I bought a can of it a year ago and it was 99.95. Not too much of an increase considering all the craziness.

If you can't find it locally look here. http://gun-deals.com/list/ammo/7.62x54R I don't know where you're located and the best deals are close enough in price shipping will make the difference. USAC Sales (US Armory Corps.) is in Tuson, Arizona so if you're close the shipping won't be to bad. The owner is Jeff Sorentino and he's an importer. He's just now getting things back up and running after closing the site down for a few months. He's a good guy so you can buy from him with confidence. I've also bought ammo from Widener's and had no problem. They're in Tennessee. Here's a tip about Widener's. If you plan to buy more than one crate check shipping for one crate compared to each multiple. I bought 2 crates of Yugo 7.62x39 and because of the weight being close to UPS's cutoff it was $17 cheaper to buy them one at a time in 2 seperate orders. I put a note in the commentrs section what I was doing and why so they didn't think I'd placed a duplicate order by accident. That was last year so they may have done something to address it but I called them about it and was told it's because the weight for 2 crates was why it did that.

Good idea, I always ordered them several at a time but they always came as an individual shipment for each crate.

I had a great experience with Dan's ammo. I don't see them listed currently on our ammo seek link so they may be out of stock on the 7.62x54r at the moment

The logical thinking would be the more you order the cheaper the shipping. That's true until you get to a certain weight. That's about 66lbs. roughly for UPS and FedEx. Anything you ship has a base shipping charge and the additional weight added is charged in increments per pound. Once you get to the cutoff a new base charge is generated. It has to do with how much they've determined someone can handle easily. The shipping was $31.26 for one crate of 1120rds of Yugo 7.62x39 so you'd think 2 crates would be less than twice the shipping for one crate or $62.52. Well it was coming out to $79 for 2 on the same order. That's why I always tell people to check shipping. Make test carts and see what they charge.

Mystery shipping always bugs the shit outta me, especially when it's something heavy and I know it's goanna kick me in the ass. I have avoided doing business with any company that couldn't give me a shipping quote. A quote only requires two zip codes and a selection of who will ship it to determine cost, it takes a few seconds at most to calculate, not being willing to quote means that there is going to be an as yet undetermined "extra" charge someplace that they don't want to mention.
