Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: The Soviet refurbished 1943 M38 carbine
Thanks Jim I appreciate you taking the time to make this. One day I'll be expanding my collection and these will be part of it but for now I will carry on with what I have. Heck I still haven't even shot most of the ones I already have. As always a very nice and informative video.

Excellent
They say you learn something new every day , but watching this Video proves that theory wrong,
I think that I just learned 20 things if not more .
Thank you for spending the time to do this .

That's funny, I will write "Hollywood" on a piece of paper and tack it up over the door to the head, that way in 20 minutes or so what you say will come true Pretty much the same as if I went to the real HollywoodSA1911a1 wrote:Nice job Jim.

Re: The Soviet refurbished 1943 M38 carbine
One day I will do a video with the entire M38 collection, but it's been on and off rain all day and I didn't want to risk getting caught outside with more than 2 rifles. One for each hand as I run for cover.

Thanks, Jim. I learned some things about my own M38 in the process.

Thanks for the great video! Looking forward to getting my own carbine (it's in the mail).
Re: The Soviet refurbished 1943 M38 carbine
Good stuff Jim. One thing, my M38 has an M44 stock but DOES have all matching parts on it. No line outs or electro pencils. Weird huh?

Re: The Soviet refurbished 1943 M38 carbine
Izhevsk was by far the largest producer of small arms in the history of Russia, the odds of getting a refurb with all Izhevsk parts is pretty good. You can sometimes find all Tula matching rifles as well, I have such in my own collection, Izhevsk matching also. With millions of rifles being done it was bound to happen. Electropencil markings are just what they were using once the process became available to them, probably by the late 60's. It's as normal as the stamped numbers, line outs can be found on any refurb, and are most common on the Magazine.

The M44 is nothing more than an altered M38 in the first place

Re: The Soviet refurbished 1943 M38 carbine
It's easier for me to make a video than try and get the still pics right, eventualy I will need to upgrade the equipment to something with stabilization and better focus lock. I will have to remember not to ramble on for ten minutes or more, even with cable high speed it requires over an hour to upload ten minute's of content.
