My Lucky Day ....1913 Finn Izhevsk Dragoon

Post by ffeng31 »

At least that's what I think , but by the looks of the multitude of sling hangars it has likely been all over the place. Found this whilst out roaming today and couldnt get the money out of my pocket fast enough. I would love any and all comments to help me sort this rifle out. The obvious is that it is a 1913 Izhevsk Dragoon that was captured by the Finns. But what's with the stock disc area and the German like sling cutout? Oh and no import marks that I can find and every part appears to be Izhevsk. Only numbered parts are the barrel shank and the bolt , and they dont match. I'll try and take some more pics while "gently" cleaning it.

You wont believe this but it has been sitting in a revolving rack at a local gun store for as long as I have been going there and I just today gave it a better look. I thought i was just buying a Dragoon until I researched it more.

An M91rv!!! Wow! Incredible find. It looks to be all complete too (minus the unit disk) and with the correct old style handguard still on it too. Amazing rifle. Very rare, definitely NOT something you even see often, let alone have the chance to own. A rifle like this would be the centerpiece of most Finnish rifle collections. Even in really advanced Finnish rifle collections, it would be the equal of most of the other hardest to find items.

That one stayed in service a long time. The Finns didn't start using D166 ammo until the early 40's.
