got my first Chinese Type 53 last week. 296 arsenal, built 12/53 according to receiver. stock in pretty good condition. hand guard fair, no cracks. action is buttery smooth compared to most Mosins and it has a great trigger. better than any of my M44's. i'm curious about the 77 markings on receiver tang and butt plate. all #'s match except for bolt which appears to Russian.

Definitely a nice rifle for sure!

The local gunshop has about 4 of these all with nice bores. I wanna pick one up because he is selling them for 130-150 or so. There is a 1956 T53 that has a mint barrel. Funds are a bit too tight though.

Broke in Mosins have that feel to the bolt, it's the refurbs that tend to be rough. Nice :)

Very nice  . The bolts on all my type 53s are smooth like that. I was wondering about the cleaning rod as well. Did it come with the rifle or did you add it? Where did you get your type 53 (if you don't mind telling a nosey schmuck like me  )

The only way you got a cleaning rod with the old Omega rifles is if it was stuck down in the bore.

Not a joke, it happened on at least two occasions that I remember, in both cases the rods were eventualy removed to uncover the badly pitted and worn bore they were hiding.

Omega rifles could be a real treat, back then you were better off trying to find one brought back from Vietnam.

I had good luck with the SOG ones I ordered. Four of the five had very clean shiny bores. The other I had to bore blast and put some elbow grease into but cleaned up nice

I have seen these gain a lot of respect in just the last couple years. As they get into the hands of forum members who have good experiences with them they keep getting more desirable.

i bought from a LGS, well sort of, he was 50 miles away. i remembered the last time i was in and bought one of the sino-banian SKS' he had like 10 on the rack, as well as other assorted Mosins. when i went back all he had was the T-53's and one M 44 @ $300. he is an old collector as well and gives C&R holders price breaks for buying from him and not ordering online. the T-53 came with the cleaning rod and all but 2 had them. its a CAI import. bore is better than any of my current Mosins, which really surprised me. I'll post pics of the /26\ SKS in the forum.
