Can anyone tell me about the 50's Romanian Trainers? There's one locally, single shot, 1951, UMC-CUQIR stamped.

Romanian military .22 training rifle, just what it sounds like, it's not a Mosin however it looks, it's as good as any .22 around.

I think SOG had these. They look pretty neat, but I have never seen one up close :vsad:

I have yet to buy a .22 that wouldn't shoot no matter who made it, it's a pretty basic firearm.

Is this similar to the Romanian M69 .22 Trainer Rifles?

I've seen Royal Tiger selling them for about $120 with free shipping. After the transfer fee, $140 isn't bad for a .22 rifle. However the magazines seem nearly impossible to find.

What would be a modern equivalent to these Romanian Trainer Rifles? I'm looking for a bolt action .22 with either an internal or external magazine.

What would be some, if any, downsides to getting a Romanian Trainer Rifle?

The only down sides I've heard of is that it's hard to get magazines for the M69 and that there are known issues with some of them. Plenty of info about the issues in the various forums, I'm not familiar with them off hand.

This one is a pre M69 single shot, I think I'm going to pass on it since I'm supposed to be a getting a WZ48 from Royal Tiger.

I saw two Polish trainer 22s tonight at a gun shop. Neat looking bolt action rifles. I don't know if they are the same thing or not.

No, they look a bit more like a Mosin, nice rifles, did you buy them?
