Just ordered 20 stripper clips for my Mosins

Post by Deputy »

I looked on Amazon and they had them there, but there was a lot of complaints about them being cheap, China imports that didn't work worth a dang. Got some from E-Bay that have the Izhevsk mark on them so they aren't Chinese. And yes, I know they are free with some corrosive ammo. But I don't shoot corrosive ammo. :D

These appear to be from the latest tins of 7.62X54 that was around here last year. J&G has ammo on strips again (today).

I ordered 20 of the cheap ones and they are hit or miss. Some work pretty well others don't. I should have spent the extra and got decent ones.

I have had teh Izhevsk marked clips for over 20 years and they are still working fine, not that I use them much.

I have 24 boxes I picked up just to have for the ammo collection, the clips will stay with the ammo in the boxes locked in a ammo can.

Buy a case of ammo and they will come with them.

Some people are avoiding the 40's ammo because of some case crack issues.

Don't hide from corrosive ammo. You clean your rifle don't you?

Well, that's all it takes. It isn't like the stuff sits in the can waiting or you to go to sleep, then creeps out to corrode the barrel. A quart of hot water after the range and all the corrosive salts are down the drain. Then clean up the rest exactly as if you were using non-corrosive ammo.

I'd rather shoot 200 rounds of corrosive ammo and clean up than have to stop at 50 rounds of high priced stuff.

I have one Russian Mosin and three M39 Finnish Mosins.Unfortunately weather and other stuff has prevented me from getting out to the range. Maybe this weekend I can get some shooting done. :)

To those that buy milsurp...I don't. I don't criticise those that do, but I just can't pour water into my guns. Goes against what I have been taught all my life. Can't teach an old dog new tricks. I'll pay the extra for non-corrosive and buy the stripper clips seperately.

No cridicsiom implied . I can see where your coming from with water, steel and rust. I come back from the range, take off the barrel, and pour a pan of boiling water down the barrell,it gets so hot that it dries itself in minutes, then i do a normal cleaning and lube.

Try it and save some jingle

Can't, just can't. Too many times holding my rifle above my head while moving through small rivers and streams in Nam. Just goes against what I have been taught. :vsad:

M14 first two months and M79 grenade launcher next four. Oh yeah...M79 barrel COULD be cleaned with water, no problemo. Aluminum :bwink:

Once I do the boiling water thing I hit it with the air hose. Works for me.
