Both of you can get your Garands easily from the CMP.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Every time my gun fund gets close on a Garand I buy something else, and when I think about it I get a thought like that old V-8 juice commercial. "I should have had an M-1!"

Re: What is on your gun bucket list ?
I am not sure I can list everything that is on my gun bucket list. Every time I see something new on here I want one, is that a sign of an illness? But I can say I marked one off my bucket list today. I purchased a Colt LE6920 online. Hopefully it will be my FFL next week and I will get to play with it next weekend.

Re: What is on your gun bucket list ?
Happens to me a lot except this summer it was the A/C in the house going out, the CV boots in the truck failing along with the blower motor for the trucks A/C and a set of new off road tires. It's worth it though to hold off buying the common pieces and save and indulge in something exceptional. The nicer guns simply demand a slight premium sometimes but in the long run they are worth it how lifetime collections are built. I'll admit I have bought examples of certain firearms where I could have bought 5 or 6 Mosins and I have bought my share of filler's and collection placeholders over the years but these days funds only allow for something once in awhile so I exercise patience and only try to buy something slightly exceptional.Ironnewt wrote:Every time my gun fund gets close on a Garand I buy something else, and when I think about it I get a thought like that old V-8 juice commercial. And on topic my list:
1. War time 1911 all original, prefer Remington/Rand
2. Luger, once again I want original and a holster with it
3. Original k98 markings intact, no import
4. Original intact matching Arisaka's
5. Any example of anything or great deal that comes along that I can fund and not pass up.

My grandfather has an original arisaka. No Import marking or anything. He got it from his father who served on a hospital ship in the second world war. He said they just had them piled up on the deck and told the crew to take what they want.etprescottazusa91 wrote:Happens to me a lot except this summer it was the A/C in the house going out, the CV boots in the truck failing along with the blower motor for the trucks A/C and a set of new off road tires. 1934 Make sure that piece of your family history goes to you otherwise chances are it will end up like this rifle, belonged to someones grandpa a few weeks ago and for $200.00 some twenty something allowed his heritage to now belong to me.1934hexreceiver wrote:My grandfather has an original arisaka. Real thing as in 1847 issue Colt first gen? That will run you at least five figures for anything short of a dug-up.
