We used to take our rifles and shotguns to school for show and tell. Must have been in the 50's. Also kept rifles in our car on the school grounds so we could go hunting after football practice.

My first car was a 1948 Chrysler convertable with the wood sides I paid $17.50 for and it ran fine. I took my driving test in 1960 in a borrowed 1956 Plymouth because my car, a 1949 Ford was too low to pass the saftey test.

I learned to drive with my dad's 54 Ford. The next winter I took it out on the ice on lake Winnebago, cranked it up to 50 or so,steered hard right and jammed on the brakes and practiced steering out of loops. I was on my way back from class my first year in college when I heard President Kennedy had been shot.

We had a gas war the summer of the next year and I was able to buy cruising gas at 19 cents a gallon. My first new car was a 69 GTO. I guess all this means I'm pretty old.

Yes, common everyday items aren't they ? You forgot party lines, hand cranked cars, silver coins, maps that don't need batteries, and the cracker barrel in the general store. :)

My grandparents had a outhouse. It was a big event when they added onto their little house and installed a real bathroom. I am only 50 though.

There was still a small shack with an outhouse in this area up until 1986 when the county found out about it and shut it down. The owners, weekend people up from the city for 40 years put the place up for sale and the new owners had to install a septic system.

LOL....Wisdom doesn't always come with age.

Ohhh the memories!...outhouses, helping pluck chickens as a kid, rendering lard in a big cast iron kettle on an open fire......they all came with smells that still stick in my nose :beek:
My 1st vehicle was a '49 Chevy pickup that my grandad gave me as a summer's wage......he wasn't allowed to drive anymore.....& I still have it! :vcool:
