Greetings from NH, the "Live Free or Die" state. My real name is Jim. I am a 60+ freelance product designer.

I recently purchased my second and third surplus rifle. Rifle #1 (Yugo SKS) was awhile back.

Rifle #2 turned out to be a refurbished 1929 faceted <read:Hex> receiver Izhevsk Ex-Dragoon.

Liked it so much, I bought rifle #3 which turned out to be a refurbished 1935 faceted receiver <read:Hex> receiver Tula.

Cleaned up #2, # 3 is remains in the grease (and will for the time being).

Numbers "matching" on both but I am uncertain if they weren't "force matched" (not by electro-pen for sure).

So, I guess I have to decide "what's next"?

Cheers.

Jim

Welcome to the board Jim, sounds like the start of a great collection. Yes, the refurbished rifles are all force matched, just part of the refurb process

FNG here. Getting ready to take my 91/30 to the range this morning. When I picked it up, it was covered in preservative. Field stripped it down and all metal spent considerable time in a tube of HOT water and Dawn dishwashing soap. It came out with no traces of gunk. To my amazement, all parts have matching numbers. Addressed the sticky bolt issue and re-aligned the post sight. She shoots like a dream. Currently looking for the sniper version to add to my collection.

Welcome to the board Casey, watch out for fake PU's, the field abounds with them.

Adam Lee reporting for duty!

I guess my ADHD is really bad - I've been a member here for some time and yet never posted!!! What's up with that?

OK, I am a 6th grade teacher and have summer off (right! not really!) so this is when I focus on my gun hobbies.

Currently finished up a '29 Dragoon from 91/30 back to Dragoon specs. That is already traded and will be shipped out soon 'nuff....

My "bulgarian pinecone" 1916 scrubbed PTG is what I'm working on now, far as Mosin Nagants are concerned.

98 Mausers, any Mosins, pre-1945 Remington/Savage/Stevens/Browning shotguns and rifles are other fun things for me.

OK, see yall later!

Adam

Mike here. I look forward to learning from you all and sharing ideas etc. Thank you very much for allowing me in. I just bought a 1942 Izhevsk 91/30. Put 70 rounds through it in two days. Crazy how much fun it is. Lethal too. Anyway, see you around the boards.

Question about the MN M91/38

First post! Hi... Colonel70 here. I own two Mosin Nagant M38's (along with eight other MN's of different models). The barrel rifling stops short of the barrel ends by 1 & 1/4 inches of my M38's ? Is this the norm or do I have two defect M38's ? Has anyone out there fired one of these M38's with this issue? This forum is great....I've learned a lot about how to cure the problems I have with my Mosin's by viewing the video's, especially the bolt action problem.

Welcome to the board, good news, it's not a defect, it's a repair. We call this a counterbore, the last inch of rifling in a lot of these bores got damaged by improper cleaning, they fixed it by drilling out that inch and resetting the barrels crown an inch down in the pipe. I have fired many Mosins with counterbores, never a problem, and there are other Mosins I wish had gotten the treatment.

New Member just saying "Hello". Have several different flavors of M-N's among other surplus rifles. Terrible addiction:-)
