Is there a trick to using the factory sights?

Hello to all. I am a retired USAF Major (medically retired, disabled from wounds) living in what's left of Panama Coty FL.

Been collecting C&R's for a little over a decade, several MN's and many others. Just ordered a Remington M91 that I think was traded/sold to the Finns (has the SA mark) and is wearing one of their stocks. Couple of Russki 91/30's and a Hungarian M44.

Yeah its expensive! But i must say that its probably a demand and supply problem for me
In your country you can probably buy one on every corner of the street
And in my county they are rare because of the gun licence in the netherlands
There are not many people who own and shoot guns
And you really get a thorough backgroundcheck over here!
And if you do have a license you can only own 5 weapons and full auto is not allowed.

It sucks but i think i am going to save a lot of money over the next few months haha
Thanx for your reply

That is about double what they are here, but given your location it doesn't sound unreasonable. That S&W 22/32 steelbuttplate mentions is more than that in minty condition. https://www.legacy-collectibles.com/rar ... 22-32.html

Mines not that nice , and may just be a 22/32. It has the S&W logo on the other side from that example, but looks the same, target sights, etc.

Remington Mosin Nagant 1891. Dated: 1918

Post by Chograph »

I have acquired what I believe is a 1891 Remington Mosin Nagant Dated 1918. It has a 4 digit serial number on action and butplate. Bolt and magazine Serial numbers do not match action. No import markings. Other than that I don’t know much about it.

It is missing the handgaurd but the rifle is in overall great shape. Been sitting in safe for many years. No rust, good blueing on action. Barrel has been re-blued, person has done a decent job good match. Bore is dull but rifling is crisp and clean. I would like to know about it’s history, where its been and, approx. value.

I plan on shooting it soon but will eventually sell it. I’m getting up in age. I would like to know what would be a fair asking price? I’m sure some Mosin Nagant collector would like to have a Remington version to bring home .

I thought this would be a good place to start. Any input out there?

Oooops...Forgot to properly introduce myself

Post by Chograph »

Forgot to properly introduce myself. Thanks for opportunity to share my knowledge. I have been collecting and shooting US Military rifles for over 30 years. I have also owned many from other countries, all have been vintage Military. Nothing Like the feel and smell of old wood and metal firearms. This is the first Mosin I have have ever owned so here I am on yet another great forum I'm sure I will learn a lot From. Thanks for having me.

Welcome to the forum. The Remingtons that I have seen were imports from Finland or Romania. No import mark is puzzling, but not impossible. Look for the SA in rectangle on barrel shank for a Finn. My Romanian used Remington has the Imperial eagle defaced and no handguard or cleaning rod. Otherwise it looks a lot like yours. Some import marks are very faint-look near the muzzle.
