redspoon wrote:musketjon it looks like your 42 is a 2 on the 7.62x54r.net rarity chart. Could be higher iffen it has a couple of the more desirable marks/stamps.

Some say this chart is a little dated, but it will give you a rough idea. http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinRarity.htm
I think the chart is off on this one. According to Ratnik's book 164,546 Tulas were produced in '42 vs around 2,900,000 Izhevsk rifles that year.

 Racer I agree it should be higher based on production numbers, also the old chart still shows the DDR triangle 1 mark which has now been debunked. What's your thoughts on the MO marked ones on the chart, seems like a ton of those have shown up in the last 5/6 years.

Definitely not as uncommon as before and I think it's related to a refurbishment honestly.

I don't think you'll have trouble selling the 41 Tula.

I would love to have it, but funds are tight this time of year... Good Luck! :vcool:

Very cool and uncommon find. Most were built on a 41 Izhevsk receiver. Barrels came from Tula and most were '40 Tulas that had the last digit of the date overstamped with a "1" by Izhevsk. You can see this on your rifle. Faint "0" that appears scrubbed and the "1" clearly not a matching font of the first three digits. Not very many of these out there although Alex told me there are fairly high numbers of these in Europe.

Curious as to where you got it? Did you order it online or was it a local gun shop or a show or a pawn shop? Where does somebody buy their first Mosin and it ends up being a 1941 Tula?

I bought it from a local store, I just so happened to find it, not really knowing what I had. It was pure luck.

Is ghosting from the over stamp legitimate?

Yep...but does "Bought for an undisclosed amount, lol" = "too much"?

Not to me. Im happy, the seller is happy, and I'll probably never see another one so it found a new home... 8-)
