Got my first Cap n Ball

If it fires black powder, it is discussed here.

They were a very common item back in the day, we all had them.

The finish holds up well, I have had them since 2002 and they have been to the range many times but the finish is not work, no chips, or scratches. The extra cylinders however were only offered in regular blue.

Still looking for black powder no luck. Can anyone tell me if the synthic stuff works in in the revolvers?

I have read it burns a little slower and harder to light but I really hope that's wrong as that's the only stuff I can find.

The replacement powders work fine in the revolvers, Triple 7, Pyrodex, clean shot, they all work, but not for flintlocks, only caplocks.

Your in the same boat I'm in. Can't find blackpowder anywhere locally. Even the substitutes are tough to find. All I have found is triple7 2f powder. No 3f to be found.

You can mail order it from Graf and Son, or Powder inc, there is a extra $27 haz mat fee , but it's one fee for one pound or fifty, so buy in bulk.

Thanks for the info guys. I was at gander mountain last night and they had dozens of bottle of the synthitc stuff $25-30 each. But I didn't know so I didn't get any.

Need to run up there at lunch and grab a bottle or two

I thought about ordering it but I'm only wanting 1-2 cans so that $27 really raises the price

Yep bulk is key when ordering offline. If I did my math correctly, if I can order at least 4 cans eith the shipping and hazmat fee the price per pound will be $10 less than the local stuff. The price gets better the more you buy. I jist have to get the money

I order it 50 pounds at a time, enough for several years of shooting even the big bores.

The prices are higher now than when I last bought powder due to the hoarding.

Be very careful were you store powder, it should be stored in a heavy steel cabinet or explosive proof box away from were you sleep. This goes especially for black powder.

I got in the game late. Ive still got to check with one local store. I might get lucky and find some there. They are a pretty big privately owned sporting good store. Its a little longer drive but would be worth it if they have it.

I would love to order 50 pounds but I'm like you Ponecarman don't have that much free cash. I'm going to get 2 cans that should last me for a few months with the pistols. I'm going to pick up a few ever month until I get enough stocked back. I know I will pay more but easier on the wallet to spread it out

So far as I know there is no run on the BP substitutes, you should be able to get some.

Do not order 50 pounds or even one pound of real BP unless you have a very safe remote storage solution, 50 pounds of BP would level a house. Or launch it into orbit. Smokeless powder goes fizzzzzzzzz when it ignites out in the open, black powder explodes even when lit on a tabletop.
