If you still have ammo when you die, then you had enough...

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I am down to one dented and badly corroded cartridge for some rifle I sold ten years ago.

I was wrong, somebody stole that one last cartridge, must be the same bastard that made off with all my guns and pointy things!

I have 4 1/2 crates of surplus, and I am slowly building up my supply of brass for the 54r. I currently only have a few hundred, but I am reloading so they should last me for a long time before the cases fail. I don't plan to buy more surplus unless I see it locally for cheap. I keep a decent stock of the other calibers I shoot often, or that are for guns I use for self defense/SHTF situations. Mostly 40S&W and .223/5.56. Calibers I only have one rifle for I keep very small supplies for. (8mm and .30-06 maybe a few others). When push comes to shove I would sell/trade off those rifles and ammo to bolster supplies of my SHTF stuff.

.22 I only have <1,000 rounds. I shoot about 500 per year, so I feel this is a good amount to have. The .22 isn't going to defend me and keep me fed like any number of other calibers I have. I use it solely for plinking fun.

 Nah, I was just wondering if 4 crates was excessive or par for the course. In retrospect I guess asking gun guys about ammo stashes is like asking a woman's weight!

I'll go bury mine and shut the heck up!

How many uses are you getting from the cases? 20-25 is average with a mild load and neck resizing.
