So after reading a few more post on here about cleaning and checking the gun over. I have found the firing pin to be good but I am hopefully getting the head spacing checked out today buy a gunsmith. I am going to the range tomorrow and would love to touch off a few rounds with it before I start plinking away with my new 10/22 from the same show.

I will shortly be buying the okie gauges which are the ones that I really should get? just the Go and NO-GO or just get all three. from what I have read on here in the cleaning and maintenance section I think it says the GO and NO-GO are the ones to go off of. I very well could be wrong and or read it wrong.

Go is more for setting a barrel, a gunsmiths tool, it would help if you had a tight bolt situation but this is rare on a Mosin. Field is the maximum amount of headspace a rifle can have and still be safe, but probably not the most accurate of weapons. No/Go is what I use on all of mine, if it fails the no/go I either don't shoot it or I fix it.

Thanks JYD I will be ordering them soon. Plus I guess they are good to have knowing that I will be buying another one again.

So I went to the range yesterday sadly without the mosin. But I had to plink off some rounds with the other gun I bought from the show(ruger 10/22). So after cleaning that gun and my other .22 bolt I brought I figure why not take a part the Mosin too. Which I am thank full I read the section on cleaning and dismantling. To find out that it's really easy to do. So I checked it out cleaned it up a bit (not that it really needed it) and everything look great no rust just clean.

Hi wriz and welcome to the forum. I wish I had one of the early hex models with the laminated stock, but I seem to keep skipping around them. You did great on this one, and found a great 22 also. You can't go wrong with the handy little Ruger carbine.:P

Send some rounds down that thing! :bwink:

The rifle is looking sweet from the photos. If you are worried, send me a few hundred rounds and the rifle and I will "check it out" for you! :)

Just kidding, I don't want a dozen rifles sent to me now.....well, wait, yes I do! :chuckles:

Good luck, and show us your target!

Let the rifle cool down every ten shots or you will heat the forend to the point that oils start to boil out of the wood and it can take the shellac with it as it goes.

shot the mosin yesterday. There were no big issues other then the "sticky" bolt that happens. I sent 31rds down range and kept the grouping fairly tight. but she shoots like a champ. I had a couple guys admiring it and ask a couple questions. but I love the gun just a fun gun to shoot.

I have been away for a bit but I do have a question. the guy I went to the range with I guess was talking about how my bolt would "stick" at the 45 degree point and two of the shells did split a little. the shells where the surplus rounds I bought with the gun. the point is they told him that the head spacing might be a bit off and that's why it was "sticking" and split the two shells. the question is are they right? or should I just keep shooting it? I have not bought the gauges but I need to sell a few things so I can get them. also is "fixing" the spacing possible? If so how would you do this?
