On another note i went through my mosins last nite and i found a couple that were counter bored but it seemed to be the older ones mainly. 1922, 1925 but suprisinly my chinese T53 was good even though the stock is pretty rough....

Age had nothing to do with why they counterbored a rifle, they did it if the crown was badly worn regardless of age. None of my 20's or 30's era Mosin 91/30's are counterbored and only a few of the wartime dated ones. I have a few M38's and at least one M44 that is, and also a few rifles that should have been but weren't.
