I just can't believe you found it at a yard sale. What gives?
No words of wisdom come to mind at this time....

This is all I've found so far. I'm not even sure it's the right ammo and it's expensive.

7.62x53r is pretty much a reloader's thing. Luckily for your rifle, 7.62x54r dies would work, just load the cases with .308 bullets (make sure they aren't too long though since the throat on your rifle may be pretty short) rather than .311 like for 7.62x54r.

LMAO!! Since you're new and probably don't know martin08 aka Matt that was kind of a joke on his part I suspect. Matt is the king of yard sale finds and I mean the king. He finds some of the most obscure off the wall firearms as it is but some of the stuff he finds at yard sales is unbelievable. Here's a few of his recent finds and it only scratches the surface.

You most likely not find any 53r ammo that is for shooting. It is very collectable. Being the nice guy I am I will give you a standing offer of $200.00 and I'll pay the shipping too.

Haha, thanks for the offer but I'm going to have to pass. Unlike the guy I bought it from I know alittle more about it and what it's worth ;)

This looks like a pretty nice rifle! Welcome to the world of Finnish Mosins!

Sure they do, only that guy who cut you off, and flipped you the bird as you were pulling up to the sale just bought them all

Thanks for all the positive responses!

Next question.. I'd like to shoot it. But want to be 100% on what to shoot in it. My local gunsmith will charge $80 for a bore mold? Worth it?

Long before we knew about markings on firearms we had a surefire test. Tie it to tree or bench, get thee behind a vehicle and give the string tied to the trigger a big pull. If it blew up it wasn't a good firearm to shoot. No gunsmith fee.

Because the barrel isn't "D" marked, you shouldn't shoot regular 7.62x54R through it. The ammo has to be handloaded for it. I'll take it off your hands for $200, double your money.

No, seriously, GREAT FIND!!!! 8-) Buy a headspace gauge (From the banner on the top of the page; top quality stuff! I know because I did the dimensional quality checks for his prototypes.) because this won't be your last Mosin! You should be able to shoot surplus through it if the headspace checks out, but actually, handloads with .308 diameter bullets would be best for it, and you could tailor your loads to purpose.

You should have bought a lottery ticket that day! :vcool:
