I have a couple of low numbers. Don't really know what that means though :)

Guys, Just saw this thread. I have been waiting for this moment LOL. I have a serial number 37 dated 1930. I believe that is the lowest yet. I took the stock apart and saw the tang dated 1929 which corresponds with what I believe is the beginning of the 91/30. Everything is stamped 37 on the bolt, floorplate, and butt plate. It also has a hex receiver and brass ends on handguard. Cool rifle. Fill me in on your thoughts.

Your rifle is consistent with the observations that left over receivers were used into the next year. Your rifle could be an ex dragoon also, dragoon and 91/30 production overlapped for a while. Nice find.

Here's the 3954 dragoon ever made. So while not a 91/30 it's the grand dad of all 91/30s

From the pictures it looks to be a refurbished Mosin Nagant. They are made from the parts of many other rifles in most cases so the history of that rifle is basically what it is after refurbishment. Maybe you already know this but this is a good read about the refurbishment program and why this is significant to a rifles history. http://www.russian-mosin-nagant.com/ref ... index.html Basically it has many histories I guess you could say.

Thanks for the link. However, the number on barrel and date on receiver are what I am excited about because you can't change that. Sort of a fingerprint:)

That's usually all that was left together, the barreled receiver, when they refurbished these. That is unless either the barrel or receiver was damaged and they replaced them accordingly. Chances are good that receiver and barrel were together from first assembly if the dates are the same.

Once they started using alpha numeric prefixes in '38 a two or three digit serial number rifle could have been made at any point. There would be multiple 292's out there each with a different prefix.

I have a 1934/50 (no MO mark) Izhevsk refurb that is serial number "03". It's stamped matching.
