It may be pitted, but is highly unlikely to be ruined, it could just be dirt inside , or grease. These rifles are not common, and in regular condition, as in not new or unissued, they run near a grand, with a less than perfect bore it's worth at least $350

I will go back tomorrow and see.

Not necessarily. I hate to pee on anyone's parade, but a lot of dealers, for whatever reason, will not sell to non-residents, even when it is perfectly legal. The Wal-Mart I work at in WI, for instance, will not sell rifles or shotguns (We of course don't carry handguns) to MN residents, eve though it's perfectly legal to do so. Fortunately, Fleet Farm doesn't restrict this. (Except of course with handguns, where they have to )

I hope yours does, and I hope you get that FN49, you'll find it everything JYD said.

In the 90's I bought a large amount of guns from a gunshop just over the state line in Connecticut, I had to comply with their waiting period law, but that's all.

My Dad a pristine FN49 in 8mm Mauser back in the early 90's. Beautiful gun. He sold it to buy a video camera to record his sex trophies (AKA his kids). ThIs "trophy" would of preferred he kept the rifle!

My camcorder was near 2 grand at that time, old VHS quality, but it was the rage at the time

I wonder, Did we ever find out what the other FN in PA was? Some of the other verities can bring big bucks. If the bore is all rusty on the 8mm the gas system should be looked at too.

Well I was at my LGS and we threw a bore brush down it and is in rough shope. The only thing I can think of is to shoot some steel jacketed milsurp ammo down it to clean out some of the rust. Also, the gun is on consignment and he may have it sold. He did not tell me this yesterday because I got mixed up and thought the Egyptian was a 6.5 and I did not realize I was wrong until last night and I showed him no interest in it. So someone came in earlier today and said they are interested in it so I will find out tomorrow if it is still there. The Belgium one in PA I have no got a chance to call and see if they still have that one. I would like to have both but that may not happen. I will let you guys know tomorrow.

You can say that again!

Something like that would not sit long at that price rough bore or not.

For an 8mm semiautomatic I like my Hakims better. My FN49 is kinda finicky but the Hakims will eat anything. They are usually cheaper too and I like the removable mag.

I find them to be exactly the opposite, my FN49 is far less picky about ammo, my Hakims like the Yugo 8mm and hate everything else, or course the gas system had to be readjusted once I ran out of Egyptian ammo.

I was going between "sex trophies" and "crotch fruit". I was in one of those moods...
