The water content if key, I can't speak for windex as I have never used it, but others have, I only wash out bores outdoors and let the water run on the ground, to messy inside.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

I too use Windex w/amonia. At the range I soak a patch and run it thru the barrel. I then run a second dry patch. I spray the bolt as well with Windex. When I get home I swab the barrel out with Hoppes #9 and then several (sometimes many) dry patches, and finally a patch with Ballistol. Clean the bolt with some Gun Scrubber and lightly oil. Seems to work as I have not had any rust issues.

(I fully realize its the water that desolves salts, and not the amonia BUT......Its a nice shade of blue :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles: )

I have used just Windex for years with no trouble. After that any cleaner you want to use works for me! Just as long as you clean as normal and swab with oily patch when done cleaning. I use Ballistal because it is Mineral Oil for the most part and will not hurt the wood. Any good oil you like will more than likely work just fine as I just got used to the above. Bill
