1932 VkT M27

Hey guy's, there's been a few great post lately about Finnish Civil Guard rifles and some really nice pic.s.

Since I was in the army however (way back when) maybe I'm a little partial to the M27's.

Here's some pic.s of an M27 that has the best stock I have ever seen on a mosin, I don't know what type of wood it is but I like it, it is a stark contrast to the artic birch examples that so many of us like and for the obvious reasons.

While not really rare it is one of the 2150 made by VKT in 1932.

What seems to be rare on this one is the stock itself and it seems to have it's original handguard which have been replaced on so many of these rifles.

This one also has it's original matching bolt as well as it's matching serialized winged connector.

I have added a 1937 dated, Sk.Y and Friitalan Nahkatehdas Oy leather makers marked, roller buckle sling, while technically not correct, it could possibly have been later used by the army as the Civil Guard was disbanded.

In my opinion a VKT M27 is as rare as hen's teeth. That's a great example!!!

VKT----1932, 1935---2,150 & 400 respectively

Que Bella! Hard to find M27 and a real keeper. If you collect M27s, you have to try for the VKT.

I just looked at the muzzle of my 1932 VKT and it looks like a M28/30 muzzle, opposed to being recessed like the Tikka M27s. bb91, is yours recessed or rounded?

Homer, I checked them both, the crowns are rounded, something prevelant on Vk.T's?

I have noticed conical (recessed) and rounded crowns on a lot of different rifles of the same type and made by the same factory. I haven't really taken note of it for M27's, but for the M28's and M28/30's I've seen I have yet to see a pattern other than the rounded variety seems to be more common for both M28's and M28/30's with possibly different crown variations being more common for different times of production. Not sure about M39's either.

This would probably be something that would not be TOO difficult to do a detail survey on to find the patterns for most of the different models and manufacturers. It is one of the questions in the updated M28 survey I'm conducting, but that has 3 responses so far, lol.

M27s were supposed to have recessed crowns, which I believe was an Army requirement. When the M39 was developed for the Army and CG, the Army won out and got the recessed crowns as the standard. It's odd that the VKT rifles built for the Army don't quite follow the standard.

Here's a couple more, one looks a little shiney but the wood has no gloss.

Looks like one of those Finnish 'nut wood' stocks which, if the case, would make it Hickory I believe. The nut wood stocks are uncommon 1 piece stocks that were built from scratch by the Finns for M27's and M91's.
