Best Home Defense Round?
Re: Best Home Defense Round?
12 Ga pump loaded with four Winchester PDX-1 - a one ounce slug with three 00 buck sitting on top of it. I fired two at the range last weekend, they make some impressive holes.

We used to call that buck and ball, an old Musket load for the smoothbores during the States War.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Never wait to be shot until you shoot back shoot every last round to make sure the family can only sue you once, SHOOT TO KILL! I use a S/S 12 gauge or a Glock .40. Its never let me down and hits what I'm aiming for!-Steve

In Missouri family members of the BG can't sue you, it's part of the Castle Doctrine law.SDH1903 wrote:Never wait to be shot until you shoot back shoot every last round to make sure the family can only sue you once, SHOOT TO KILL! Re: Best Home Defense Round?
When I started this thread I meant to ask what round would be the best home defense round in the .40 S&W but I have to admit the thread got some nice input and I learned various other ideas that people have to protect themselves and their families.

Re: Best Home Defense Round?
When I took my concealed carry course this topic was discussed for handgun ammo. The instructor claimed that based on reports of gunshot victims shot by other police officers, that Winchester Ranger was a very lethal defense round.

Winchester ammo tends to be pretty good, I just bought another hundred rounds of Winchester surplus buckshot.

If we were all smart, we'd be buying up ammo by the case and the weapons that we can afford. Prices on both aren't ever going down and depending on what happens in November. I'm afraid of what could happen....

I have two that I keep ready, a Glock 22 (.40) with a light on it, and a Ruger Redhawk 4" .44 magnum loaded with soft round nose .44 Specials.
I have a small house. I figure either of those is plenty firepower.

Re: Best Home Defense Round?
Either is good for home defence, but either can punch through a house wall or two, dangerous if you have close neighbors, or people in other rooms. A shotgun with shot, not slug, is much safer to bystanders, and lacks the wall penetrating power of a single high velocity projectile, or if it does penetrate the wall it's velocity is much reduced.

I know. I'm considering getting some of those safety slugs. I think Glazer makes them.
I know someone is working on one that penetrates about 8 inches then dissipates into vapor.

Yes, air marshals use them when armed on commercial aircraft. There are more selections I believe, but I have not studied up much on the subject. I live away from any close neighbors, I can blast away with the AK if I want, but the holes in my walls would seriously piss me off, the shitbird who made me do it had better be dead when I find him.

Smith and Wesson .40 with cor-bon powr ball. Hollow point with poly ball in the end of it, helps it mushroom out more on impact. Also claims to prevent going through target and winding up down the street in someone else.
