My Second M91/30; 1921 Izhevsk ex-Dragoon
My Second M91/30; 1921 Izhevsk ex-Dragoon
Ok I promised pics, so here's a bunch. I bought this rifle about 14 months ago after buying the 1940 Tula about two months previous (the Tula was my first). When I did, I kept asking myself why I was buying another Russian WWII rifle. After all, I already had one. Well, let me say I have become semi-hooked and now I have seven of these type rifles.
This one turns out to be more interesting than I first thought. It is a 1921 date on the barrel shank, but a 1916 tang date (you'll see in the pictures). Today was only the second time I have disassembled the weapon, so I didn't know what to look for when I was a relative newbie. All I knew when I went out to buy is that I wanted all matching numbers and a hex receiver. I didn't even know it was an Izhevsk until I got it home and did some research. Here are the particulars:
Type: M91/30 Izhesvsk ex-dragoon refurb; 1921 tang date 1916
Importer: Liberty Arms
Stock: Post war; finish, good with some flaking
Modification: Trigger Return Spring
Bore: Excellent
Barrel: Minor external pitting under the handguard; finish, good
Other: All matching numbers; most parts Izhevsk

The commies never wasted a good receiver, or anything else they could reuse. Cool date, 1916 was a VERY BAD year for the Russian army on the Eastern front, and 1921 was the last official year of the Russian revolution.

No it did not. I bought trigger return springs for all seven of my guns from an outfit in Florida. See the attached link:redspoon wrote:tjt, very nice ex-dragoondid yours come with the mousetrap spring?

That is a great one. I would have picked that one up too with all those good Mosin years on it. 1916 year before the Revolution and 1921 when the country was still in turmoil.

Re: My Second M91/30; 1921 Izhevsk ex-Dragoon
Pretty much any 91/30 refurb with a date before 1929, the 91/30 is just an updated dragoon, all they did was change the sights and bands. The dragoon had solid ring bands instead of the split ones, and the sights were like the ones on the old M1891 rifle. You can find a writeup on them on the forums information page ![smile :)](./images/smilies/smile.gif)
