my squirrel slayer :)

Post by surpluscollector »

i use my .17 HMR for squirrels. my setup is the Savage .17 HMR 93R17GLV with the Leupold STD mounts holding a Weaver 44/40 3x9x40 scope an a 6"-9" Harris bi-pod. i shoot the Hornaday 17 grain V-Max rounds. just do head shots, it will make you a better shot :)

One of my customers has a pear tree in his yard and he hates tree rats messing with it. He has become deadly with a pellet pistol shot from the back window of his home. He gives the tree rats to the guy next door who eats them and nails their tails to the fence.

nope since the 7 1/2 an 8 is such a small shot it seems like the squirrel goes into like shock or something cause i hardly ever have pellets go past the hide into the meat. try it this comming season to shoot one with the small shot :) it does work

Yep, I can attest to that. The squirrel's hide is so tough rarely does a pellet make it through. 7-1/2 shot is perfect. You don't need to change out the shells in your hunting vest from dove season :D
You see in this world there are two kinds of people my friend, those with loaded guns... and those who dig. You dig.

I agree. 7&1/2 is perfect. I once shot three in a row with a semiauto 12 gauge. They were chasing each other around the truck of the tree.

I put an end to those shenanigans.

I actually shot an armadillo with one of those once. I had hunted hard for two days without a bit of success and was on my way out of the woods, and there it was, standing right in my way. One shot and it blew up, literally blew up. It looked like a pile of raw hamburger.

That's what you get for standing in my way.

.22 Colibri works well for squirrels. I have an over-the-hill single shot bolt rifle that seeks 'em out like radar. No noise, and without an expensive suppressor.
