Hand Guard lighter color?

Post by shoto2758 »

Is this common? I take it as being replaced somewhere along the line.

Yes, it's very common among my refurbs, you have an older stock and a brand new handguard put on during the refurb, with all the cosmoline in that old wood it would never be able to color match the new wood.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Handguards often break and get replaced, actually that is not that bad a match. you'll get use to it and at some point not even notice.

Like Earl said, that one's not bad actually. Often, there is a lot of contrast:

It kind of reminds me of some of the older women I saw on the beach during a recent trip to Florida. Nice light blonde on top, dark and gnarly underneath.

I actually swapped the handgaurds on my 91/30s simply because they matched better on the other rifle.

Odds are if they are a refurb it's prib not the original guard anyway.
