Nationality confused M-44

Post by SA1911a1 »

This rifle is the most mixed up rifle I own. No two serials match. It's good side is that it is an excellent shooter and has a fine bore and trigger. It was bought in The Spring of this year for $75.00 plus shipping.

I wonder what nation last had this rifle in their inventory.

Polish Barrel (1952) and cleaning rod
Romanian bolt and butt-plate
Hungarian stock, apparently unissued since refurb
Plum colored barrel bands

Check out the XR54 light stamp under the serial. Any clue what this number is?

(I am still having some problems getting the scaling right)

The Romanians, they are famous for parts rifles, my Hungarian M44 is like that, but the EP'd new serial numbers on all the parts while leaving the old numbers in place.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
