At least he's not falling out of bed. That happened to a friend, broke his hip, went to the hospital, got Covid there and died in early 2021. True story, not very funny, I am very careful getting out of bed since then, and have taken to sleeping in the middle of the mattress well away from the edge. Briefly considered the merits of sleeping on the floor, but decided that once down there I would not be able to get back up again.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
