Remington Mod 11 12Ga Stock refinish

Post by wolfstein »

I have had this Remington Model 11, 12Ga for a couple years. It was made in 1911. It is not really collectable grade, so I decided to refinish the stock. Just wanted to share the outcome. Thanks for looking.

I've been wanting an Auto-5 derivative for some time... but most I see either have cracked wood or those adjustable choke eye sores on the end.

Looks nice.

Those PolyChokes truly are awful looking. They work though, and the guys in the 50s and 60s really liked them.

Understood, and had a friend that hunted with one... but definitely ugly as sin. [emoji23]

Looks good! I might be re-finishing the stock on my Dads old Ithaca model 49 saddle gun... Previous owner started to sand the stock & left it half @$$. :angry4:

That looks good. Is that a Tru Oil finish or a hand rubbed oil of some type?

It is a Minwax wood stain with satin polyurethane coating.

Glad you didn't give it the 80's thick poly gloss finish. Never really liked that, except on Trap guns.

I don't refinish guns often, but when I do, Homer Formby's Tung oil never fails. Stay thirsty my friends.

Did you by chance replace any springs or action parts? Do the Remington 11 actions hold up over time?

Too bad, RazorBurn, I resurrected the thread despite your thread killing skills......

I picked up a Savage A-5 clone, (mechanically, it has a 'hump' instead of squareback) a Stevens 755A, for very little. It has some cracks in the stock (buttstock) behind the hump, so I will address that, then refinish.
