Post by SA1911a1 »

Does anyone know if 870 Wingmaster and 870 Express barrels are interchangable?

They should be. The difference between the 2 models is mainly cosmetic I believe.
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

All 870 barrels are interchangeable within gauge except the Special Field models, and the 12 ga. 870 Competition. The mag tubes are shorter, thus the ring is set further back on the Special Fields, and the 870 Competition has a recoil reduction system attached to the barrel ring. As millman and Rongo said, the differences between the Wingmaster and Express barrels is cosmetic only.

In 12 ga., firing 3 1/2 " shells from a 3 1/2" barrel mounted on a 2 3/4" or 3" receiver may result in jamming. Firing 3" shells from a 3 1/2" or 3" barrel mounted on a 2 3/4" receiver may result in jamming. 2 3/4" shells may be fired from any barrel, with the exceptions noted above, mounted on any 870 12 ga. receiver.
