Finnish M-39, were any Parkerized?
Finnish M-39, were any Parkerized?
Did the Finns do any Parkerizing? I am looking at a weapon locally but it looks like parkerizing, not blueing. I got a feeling that was done after import but I was wondering.
Also Parkerized M=39 assuming the Finns did not do that would also affect the collect-ability, correct?
Thanks!

A finish that was not applied by the arsenal will drastically lower the value of the piece. It would not longer be a collectible piece and therefore would have the value of a shooter.conmcb25 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2019 5:32 am Did the Finns do any Parkerizing? Big Bubba and his Henchmen Parkerized that M39. I saw it too. Worth maybe $250 as a shooter.

No, the M1 Garand is parkerized, Park is our stuff, blued or painted is what everyone else did back then. If some Bubba parkerized an M39 he's got a special room in hell reserved in his name.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Re: Finnish M-39, were any Parkerized?
This should be a good representative example
Its pretty easy to find and already costs more than I would pay for it. Thats all I feel comfortable saying, not sure what I can and can not post here, and dont want to get into trouble on my first day even though that's my usual MO.
If I could have gotten it for less than 300 I would have given it a go, then if I wanted to Bubba it further and make it a shooter, I wouldnt feel bad about it.
Re: Finnish M-39, were any Parkerized?
That is such a shame. Bubba should be horse whipped
Damn, I'll bet that's going to leave a mark! Probably hurt too!

EXACTLY! That is a crying shame.
The good news is that M39’s are not rare, and you would be hard pressed to find a worse looking example...OP keep your eyes open!

Zeebill has one that looks just like that. It's not a Finn, it's Russian
Zeebill's Russian

Compared to this one
So, is it parked or not???
We had this argument years ago with another forum and their sponser who were know to park Mosins.
So, where are we on this?

Very interesting threads on Zeebills Russian...if it’s unusual or rare, odds are he has 2 of them, minimum!
But that M39 really looks parkerized to me...would be fun to look over in person.

From the picture, it looks a lot like the Parkerizing on my Garand. Hence the question to begin with

There is also the possibility that it is a crappy blue job applied over metal covered in fine rust pitting. Thing to do would be to pull it out of the stock and see if the color is uniform on the entire barreled receiver assembly. Be careful not to lose track of the shims that should be under the action screws. It's possible there never were any shims, but if they are not there Bubba probably removed them during the fix up job.

Parked, blued over, or paint I don't think anyone can claim it was Finn done.Junk Yard Dog wrote:There is also the possibility that it is a crappy blue job applied over metal covered in fine rust pitting. Can't say that I've ever seen a parked Finn before. Looks parked to me. It's all wrong.
Re: Finnish M-39, were any Parkerized?
Looks parkerized. Some of these lame-brains buy military surplus and decide to do all kinds of stupid things to them. I'd guess some lame-brain bought one with very little finish and thought he/she needed to get it park'd to protect the metal.

From Zeebill:
My 1907 carbine was phosphate coated during a 1920s refit according to KHW. It is a perfectly legit finish for it. He never said who did it but I would guess it was the Russians. That is not Parkerized as it looks to be. There were a lot of M39s that came in to Century looking like that, Bubba could not have done them all I would say.

My friends in Finland say Finns never used phosphate finish. So that leaves Century according to what Bill sent.

Re: Finnish M-39, were any Parkerized?
There was a "sponsor" on another forum that used to do this same finish to them. They did it when they got them in their hands. They have removed the "product" from their website now. But, they did a lot of them. It was not Century. But, Century did many of them also.
I remember the members here called them on it and it started a "war" between the two forums. They (for understandable reasons) defended their "sponsor" until their products were brought up. I know the "Sponsor" even posted here, but was shown what he was doing and never came back again.
