If it fires black powder, it is discussed here.

pics want me to sign in. I know these carbines, they have been reproduced recently. About ten years back I had a customer ask me to ID some old guns that were over the fireplace in a home he had recently bought. Decorations left by the previous owners. Two Burnside carbines in excellent and very shootable condition had he wanted to shoot them, and very original. He was even more thrilled when I told him what such would likely sell for. Far as I know he kept them and put them back up over the fireplace. Nice find.

Very nice!!! I just picked up a Spencer Carbine (made by Burnside) about 5 months ago. It is hanging on my wall next to my Trapdoor Springfield carbine and my Snider Carbine. Looking for a rolling block Remington now.

The Burnside carbine is not cheap. Either is the Spencer. I haven't seen any reproduction Burnsides, but plenty of Spencer Burnsides.

What cartridge do they shoot ? My wife is reading a book about a surgeon describing how much worse the damage to the wounded was from these than standard rifle wounds.

Odd looking cone shaped .54 cartridge. No reason why it would be any worse than a .58 mini, it was a conventional enough lead bullet. The Springfield service rifle was still the more powerful weapon, just slower to load.
