Showcase Submission / Tikka M28 - Updated to M28/30 Spec (Updated M28)

Post by LottaMosins »

This is one of those Finns that I've wanted since I got into collecting, wasn't sure I'd ever find one.

Anyways, a little bit about the rifle, here is the translation of the ledger provided by Martti/Mangrove of Gunboards (original ledger at bottom of post):

S/N 21212. Walnut stock. Rifle was inspected and accepted by Eskola on 30 October 1930. However, the rifle was not shipped to Pohjola Civil Guard District until on 1 June 1932. The rifle was upgraded to m/28-30 along batch IV/34 (1934).

Martti wasn't able to narrow it down to a particular local Civil Guard. It was originally built as a Tikka M28. The stock is a one piece made from a NEW M91 stock. As part of the deal the rifle also came with the M/30 sling pictured. One of very few known examples of updated M28s.

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Now that is a beautiful rifle. Well done.

Very very nice Lotta, I can only hope that one day I find one as nice as your submission to the showcase.

While reading through the showcase forum, I noticed this rifle. Beautiful example and outstanding pics, a very desirable rifle to add to anyone's collection. One question, does the stock not have the remains of a wooden crossbolt in it, or am I seeing things? If so, the walnut stock would be Chatellerault, rather than NEW, correct?

It looks like remnants of a wooden crossbolt. If the stock is walnut, Chatellerault was the only maker of the early rifles that used walnut stocks, as far as I know. I'm surprised that Photobucket is viewable again.

I saw on another discussion board a few days ago that Photobucket was viewable again. It seems their strategy of holding photos hostage wasn't a particularly successful one ...
