I should have posted this also (I'll edit it above). Chuck brought it up to me.

Snider was an American, he couldn't sell the breach loader to the US so he went to England and they bought it. The US went with the trap door type.
There were several different types of carbines that came out of the Civil War that the Indians could have used. I don't think they could have got their hands on Snider rifles, unless Canada was supplying them. That would have caused a war between US and Canada I'd think.
A few Sniders found there way over for Buffalo hunts.
Don't believe what you see in the movies, especially older movies. Back then they did not foresee Hi Def DVDs or stop action, or movie watchers who could tell the difference between a Spencer and a Snider. Extras were armed with whatever looked good, sometimes they cobbled something together from spare parts, others they used something that looked close to period correct. I have lost track of how many States War movies were the Union, or Confederate troops are actually firing Trapdoor Spring fields rather than rifle muskets. They got away with it because the rifles look close when seen on the big screen or a small black and white TV.

The fact that it is a carbine makes it look like a cannon with that big bore. That could sure deliver some damage back in it's time. Very cool, and a nice addition to the collection.
I'm using some "old" Goetex FFG. I'm just about out now and you can't get this stuff any longer. This is the old stuff that stinks like bad eggs when you burn it!
Are you allowed to order out of state? I wasn't sure if places like Graff's ships powder to California but I have been wanting to order some black powder of a couple of brands, including their house brand.
Yes, You can order black powder. It expensive because of the extra cost for shipping hazardous material. ....... (Damn, I took enough time to answer that one ....didn't I?)

If I order 4 or 5 pounds online it absorbs the $28 hasn't fee and it is then just as cheap as buying local. Actually 3 would break even as it is 11.00 more per pound than online.
