: Schmidt Rubin K31 Recoil

Post by rideandslidejim »

How does the recoil of the K31 compare to a Mosin M44 ? Getting older, and the M44 is a little to much !

Thanks Jim

K-31 isn't too bad as compared to the M-44. If you want a delightful rifle to shot, I would suggest you acquire a Swede in 6.5x53. These are an absolute delight to shoot and tack drivers.

A K-11 is comparable to a 91/30 in recoil. . The 7.5x55, 7.62x54, .303, 30-06, all close in high power .30 cal levels. The 8 mm is the worst recoil to me. You should notice less from a K-31 than an M-44, but not much. The Swiss are excellent rifles.

I'm older too and have them both as well. I also have shoulder problems so what I did was to get the best slip on recoil pad I could buy and inside of it I add about 3/4 of additional foam. It works great and lets me still enjoy them. After I finish shooting I slip off the slip on pad and it's back to original condition. I use both the limbsaver and decelerator pads and find them comparable

Thousands and thousands of rounds fired from everything, I haven't noticed recoil in 40 years.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

I had my K31 out just the other day and I haven't shot it in over a year...my bad.. lol

To me the recoil is very close to a 7.62 x 54r shot out of a SVT 40.. Not to harsh but noticeable.

One think the K31 has going for it is the weight, yup she's a heavy puppy.. lol :D

But the weight helps reduce felt recoil.

I think a K31 has much less recoil than a M44. K31 is also one of the most accurate rifles. Worst kicking Milsurp is still the Mannlicher 8x56R IMO.

I find the K31 and the Enfield #4 Mark1 are comfortable to shoot. Mosin 91/30 a little sharper on the recoil, the Chinese T53 is the one that really seems to kicks like a mule
