Outstanding repair, need side view pictures. Myself and others are drawn to repaired stocks.

This is on the t/53. I believe the wood used on this stock is different than the European versions. Is very light and soft.this stock has dings , dents and gouges all over it.

The stock split in line with the screw that holds the butt plate on.

The Chinese used a different wood for their stocks, it is Chu wood and is softer. China has/had no hard woods.

These T53s came out of the Balkens and were aid rifles. A lot of them have drawings, names and/or dates on them and it's called trench art. It's part of the rifle's history and part of it's collectability. The crack on the stock is where a lot of the Mosins can crack and have in the past. It's a weak place. The Russians replaced the piece with what's called a toe splice. The laminate stock rifles have it. I have about 6 M91/30 laminates and if I remember correctly all have the toe splice but I think they do that when it's new. It's actually dovetailed in place.

Sounds like Mosinitis to me! Take two aspirins and down to the gun shop in the morning.

Being that OP is a noobie he needs to be told how to clean after having shot corrosive ammo. So, OP if you are still following your post here is how to clean for corrosive ammo: wet 2 patches with water and run them through the bore. Use another wet patch to wipe off the bolt face, dry the bolt face, then oil it. Run a few dry patches through the bore to dry up any moisture then clean as you would any other gun. If you shoot the rifle with the bayonet it needs to be cleaned in the same manner.
I'm made of metal, my circuits gleem, I am perpetual, I keep the country clean.

thanks for cleaning info. im still shooting the non corrosive tula ammo i picked up at wal-mart. the shop that sold me the t53 recomended a gun scrubber spray for black powder rifles. i disassemble the bolt and clean that along with spraying some through the barrel. its funny the shotguns and .22 rifles havent left the safe since i bought these. even my sons prefer them .
