I don't mean to sound ignorant (I usually can't help it), but before 68 you could have guns delivered to your door with no C&R license? That's like hearing everyone talk about being able to drink at 18 when the days had long passed by.

Yes you could, right to your door with no FFL's all that came to an end with the passage of the GCA sixty eight ammendment to the 1934 National Firearms Act. Back then you could just send away for what you wanted and a few weeks later it woulod come right to you.

No idea what the purpose of FFL system is (other than for government to collect the fees involved). It sure hasn't helped reduce gun crimes . I wasn't alive in 68, but I know things are far worse than when I was a kid. I would love to be able to order any gun I want and have it shipped to my door

It started with the Kennedy assasination, Oswald mail ordered a Carcano for the job, then the King, and Bobby Kennedy hits, the left has always used this sort of thing to push for more gun control. Johnson f***ed us over and signed it into law.

However bad it is for C&R holders with all the paperwork and such, it's much harder for the 001 FFL's who deal firearms to the public.

The inspections, and if you make one error you are in the shit, it's not easy, I had a friend that ran a shop for years.

Older thread here, thought I'd post my recent experience..
Sent out app form 2/17 and recieved the FFL03 license today 3/14.
The only interaction was with CLEO, who asked "do I know you?" I said "nope" He says "then I dont see a problem, good luck with the ATF!"

When I did it years ago, the cheif called and asked me what he should be doing with the copy I sent him. I told him nothing, it's not required that he do anything. He said, "I toss it in the files somewhere" and laughed!.
