1944 Husqvarna M38, a rare Swede.

Post by sheepdog »

Pardon me, I love showing this one off. :vcool: This is one of the toughest Swedish Mausers to come up with, a 1944 Husqvarna M38. According to the best reference book on the topic, Crown Jewels by Dana Jones, they only made 1969 of these. I've been after one for a while, missing out on two. One Saturday morning about a month ago I get on GB with no intention of buying anything and see a listing for a Husqvarna M38, no mention of the year of manufacture. Starting price was somewhat high so I figured I'd look at a pretty one, I love Mauser porn. BIN was high too but when the fifth picture down showed the 1944 stamped on top of the receiver I couldn't hit BIN fast enough. Decent deal for a 44. This one turned out to be in better shape than the other two I had missed out on, almost pristine, all matching. The workmanship is incredible, the action smooth as silk. My new 91/30 makes me appreciate the throw of this one's bolt just that much more.

Ep'd numbers on bolt parts are considered correct on a late Husky M38

Good omen, just before I picked it up I found this Swedish 50 ore piece.

Dixie likes it, that's whose fur is all over it.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.

“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Dang Sheepdog, that is just stunning! I don't have a Swedish Mauser of any type yet, which is strange since I consider them to be the finest of all things Mauser. This one does make me think of that book. A crown jewel! Congrats on finding it. Well worth the wait. :P

Would love to own or even have the chance to shoot one of those type rifles. My 100+ year old Swede M38 is the best shooter in my collection.

At least I have a 41 trough 43. Had a chance on a 44, but at the time, it just went too high for me. Stupid me... Haven't seen one since.

Bought a 1944 M38 for $150 a few years ago from a guy at my local gun show because he wanted his money back when he bought it in 1998. Sold it to friend for $350 thirty minutes later because I didn't know what I had. What a dummy I was.

Very nice guns!!!

Yes, some I have shot, but not the 1944 ones.

I have a large Swedish rifles collection and just shoot the Ljungman and M96's and CG-63's the most.

I had a 1941 Husky as well but it was not a excellent example and sold it off.
