Finnish M39 impulse buy

Post by Kzman »

Ok, so although I've been collecting Russian MN's for seventeen years, I am still quite unlearned about the Finnish models. A small local gun shop lured me in with "Polish M44" on the marquee. What was inside was a rather nice Polish all matching M44 (except for the buttplate) with a bolt like glass! Then he hands me a Finnish Mosin. I wasn't even sure of the model but I could tell it was matching with a nice bore and really cool stock with a SAKO stamp. Sooooo.....I walk out with both the Ploish M44 and 1942 Finn M39 for $600 plus tax. Good impulse buy? Or bad impulse buy?

I have no idea what you paid, but it doesn't matter, nice rifles, good impulse buy :)

It appears that you like me ought to follow your impulses! Great buy and yes Dolk like me will be drooling at that M39 stock. That is a great buy on both of them for $600 and I would have burned my hand on the wallet getting the money out or maybe in this case I would have been reaching for the card instead. I have been buying way too much here as of late including something that cost a bunch and I always said I would not buy. So in the future I will be eating my favorite meal so it seems CROW! Oh well its all in the game I guess. Congrats and enjoy! Bill

Nice pair and excellent deal. Me thinks just the M-39 could fetch the $600 at auction. Wish I had some shops around...

I would agree, the Model 39 was almost worth entering into a deal by itself, my best buy's on some of the best examples I have are often found and obtained on impulse buy's, that said it's usually when I'm broke so I buy then figure out how to pay for it all later. The model 39 is an exceptional example and would be a lifetime keeper, one criteria I use for determining whether to go for it on an impulse buy, is it a lifetime keeper?

I wish I could find a deal like that. I looked at a M39 several weeks ago, big chain gun store....$500.00 just for it. I paid $240.00 f/my M44. So, impulse buy, no smart buy...,.and I am jealous.
