Well, I thought I was done with buying for the year. But the following gem surfaced at my local shop, and there was NO WAY it was going to leave with anyone else.
These are rarely found with matching bolt numbers and original dark grey parkerized finish. Bolt channel in the receiver is still in the white. Most were rebuilt with swapped bolts/stocks/other parts, and received a refinish in the dark green park.
Barrel is dated 5-37. Mag is correctly stamped 'M2'. Factory installed Lyman 48C rear sight. Electro-pencil number spanning both underside halves of the bolt is correct.
It looks like it once had a front sight cover which did some significant scratching, and the mag floorplate took a little beating, too. Barrel band has some typical finish loss. The gun is obviously used, but not terribly abused. Stock has lightly worn finger grooves and a few dings, but does not appear sanded or heavily refinished with excess coats of linseed oil. Overall, I think it is still a 90-plus% gun.
Some pics for you. Thanks for looking.

Very nice!
“Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.” George Orwell, English novelist, essayist, and critic, 1903-1950
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Once again, a beautiful rifle with an excellent write up!

It's beautiful. They don't get a lot better than that.

Ok that does it. I won't be able to sleep tonight knowing that you were forced to take home such a old rattle trap. Seriously that rifle is begging for a range trip.......at my range! Congrats
