Shooting an Argentine Rolling Block Range Day

If it fires black powder, it is discussed here.

Shooting an Argentine Rolling Block Range Day

Post by Burrhead »

As I said in another thread, that I have one Rolling Block already in 43 Spanish. So buying another that is waiting on installments lead to my wanting to shoot the one I have. Some interesting things, I usually shoot a fairly soft lead in my Rolling Block but I had the furnace stocked up with JYD's special radiation shield Lead and said oh what the heck let's try that this time. The bullets dropped from the mold blocks at 350 grains rather than the forecasted 340 don't know why. anyway I loaded with XMR5744 26.5 grains, Large Rifle Primer, and a 4 grain tuff of Poly Fiber fill just to keep the powder back against the primer. This is my usual load when I shoot Smokeless Powder in this rifle. I guess these 64 year old eyes did ok at 100 yards line today as this target shows. I sure am looking forward to getting the other rifle in my hands and trying it out.

Even the hard lead is still softer than copper or steel jacket bullets, I find the hard stuff works well in everything except anything shooting miniballs. Round ball muskets don't care, with them the cloth patch is what rides the rifling or the bore, paper patch bullets don't care either, with them the paper rides the rails not the bullet. I am surprised you still have any left, I sold that stuff years back. I might have some left if you need more, I have enough musket balls and lead bullets cast for my shooters to last my lifetime.

JYD's special radiation shield Lead

Did it glow like this?

Depleted Uranium?

That pic really does the rifle justice better than in the other thread. 8-)

It was lead ingots cast from the small lead containers that held the radioactive shit used it cancer treatments. I acquired a haul of it from a retired Doctor, I did sweep it with the Geiger counter, it was OK, sitting many years before it came to me. This stuff like X ray shielding is at least 30/70, maybe even close to 40/60.

Ya I have one Bunky,
I actually shoot a bullet that is for the 43 Mauser so I can size it closer to the groove size of the barrel.

Ya, the rim is .065" on the case. The one I posted is a Huntington conversion from 348 Winchester.
