Yellow and Silver Tip Ammo

Post by knatori »

Just bought 100 rounds of this stuff with a head stamp 21/88 with a yellow and silver tip. Is it rare? Don't know what it is as I'm new to the Mosin/VEPR fever. Any help would be grateful! Thank you

Bulgarian steel core heavy ball. Good ammo but a little harsh on the shoulder if you don't seat the buttstock in your shoulder tight.

Hello, Yes heavy ball ammo. 182 gr. vs 147-149gr. Some rifles like it, some don't. Or would that just be shooters error. It indeed has a bit more kick. Have fun..

One slight correction - it is Hungarian steel-core heavy ball. Most heavy ball was (is?) lead core but at some point the Hungarians and someone else, the Czechs IIRC, switched to steel core. The Hungarians added the white stripe to the yellow on the tip, but I don't know about the other (Czechs?).

Joel
