Poll for the Forum: How may of us have a 1956 Made Type-53?

Post by Hobe Sound Falcon »

Knowing what I found out on Gunboards' that the 1956 Made Chinese Type-53 version of the Russian Mosin-Nagant M-1944. was only made for about 2 Full Month's before starting on SKS and AK Production, I would ask how many of you/us have one, even more so, all matching Number's. See my first Post. Hello to all. Paul in Hobe Sound, Fla.

This Year has alway's been special to me, as I was Born on 8 April, 1956, and this is the only Mosin ever made in that Year, as you all may know, only China made them after 1955. Thanks for any Replies and If you have any Information to add on the 1956 made one's please do. Paul

Hi Paul,

I have a T53 but it is a 1955. I bought it to enter "Who has the most beat up T53" contest. I came in second to Millman I think.

The weird part is, it is one of my best shooting Mosins and most accurate ones I own. 8-) Go figure!

I have a '55 as well. Nice wood and metal, good bore. Matching is curious...the only numbers are on the barrel and butt-plate. (they do not match) Floor-plate and bolt were never serialized.

The last dated T53 was made in 1961. Very rare. But you see 1960's a lot, so production of the SKS by the Chinese in 1956 did not stop the T53 from being made all the way to 1961. Lots of the T53 went to Vietnam as aid.

There was a 3 Year Break, most likely to get the SKS and AK Lines running full Speed. 1960 was the last Year. Yes my Magazine Floor Plate had a Serial Number and the Buttplate usually, however some 1956 Gun's did not have it stamped, mine did not, see my Photos on my first Post. also I had 2 1960's one had the Serial Number on the ButtPlate, and one on the left side of the Stock. Any Type-53 is good to have, even more so in top Condition. However the 1956 made one's are the hardest to find. I think I have only seen 4 for Sale, counting mine, sience 2000.

I seem to be having a problem with photobucket at the moment, I should have a pic someplace of the Vietnam bring home.

Very nice, one of my 1960s was also in a Dark Brown Stock. Love that Wall Rack, nice Photo.

Well,
My T53 is not nearly as nice, but I only paid $40 for it so I had to try it. Here are two of my best carbines for accuracy.

Top M44....Bottom T53 (both have been around the block a couple of times!)

This is what it looked like when I got it.

By the Way Don Bell at Omega Weapon Systems in Tucson, Ariz. has the Dark Choclate Brown Chinese Type-53 Stock. Not sure about the Condition's. You can see what I mean by one of the Photo's of his Stock from his website. Paul

Mine came from Omega Weapon Systems originally. The guy that bought it hated it and didn't know what to do with it because it was so bad. All Omega's T53 are like that (mostly). He used to sell them for $40 at first, but now has them for much more...maybe twice as much or more.

Dolk, I once asked him(Omega) If could just sell a Stock and Handguard set, I was wanting to get a replacement Light Colored one like I have on my 1956 Gun, he said he only had them in your Gun's Dark Brown Color. I dont think he had any in Excellent Condition, but he had different Condition's of them available. Perhaps you could find a nicer one that can be refinished better? :!:

Refinish....no, I don' refinish milsurplus rifles. I'll clean them up and take off the rust, but refinishing them ruins the rifle. It's collector value diminishes dramatically. And the histoory is gone permanetly.

My T53 is just fine. I have a dozen or so Mosin carbines, I don't need anymore! ;)
