A lonely Hungarian M48 is a pity...

Post by 7x57 »

... so I bought a second one, this time even with number-matching bayonet - the first such one I've seen so far. Here the pictures I received from the seller.

Absolutely! I often heard the phrase "Mosins breed like rabbits" and didn't want to believe it. Now they make up 50% of my - admittedly still modest - collection: 2 Hungarian M.48s, 1 Finnish M39 and 1 Finnish M27rv. And I'm already preying on a Polish M.44 and maybe a second M39 - this time a "no maker, late date" which is for sale here but still too expensive after my taste. Well, let's wait and observe...

Added a few pictures of that M39 - just to hear what you think about it.

A grain of salt is that for legal reasons I have to store all my latest acquisitions at a friend who is a licenced firearms dealer and can only pick them up gradually during the course of 2015. But this arrangement at least allows me to "circumvent" the legal "blockade" when a nice piece shows up somewhere. With my 2015 buying contingent already exhausted, that M39 (if I'd really buy it) would have to wait until March 2016 before finally moving into my gun safe...

Both the Hungarian and the M39 have nice looking stocks

A genuine Hungarian sniper would be great, indeed. But while we are quite well provided with standard Hungarian M.48s here in Germany, the snipers are extremely rare. Seems that you "collected" all or at least most of them in Vietnam. Here I did only see sniperized standard rifles so far...
