Looks like a typical Soviet refurb M38, probably imported around 10 years ago.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Century was known for screwing the pooch on some import marks years ago. That M38 looks to be in a M44 stock, and is dated 1944, but that is a typical M38 barrel and front sight from what I can see of it.

Maybe it's just a bad pic but the stock looks horrible in that 2nd pic, refinished?

The import mark isn't the end all. I saw an "M38" on the auction site, import marked M38 but it was a 91/59.

Yep, I have a VZ24 Mauser from Century that's marked "M1969 22 CAL Romania" with X X X X over it and no other identification. I also have a Romanian M1969 Trainer bought at the same time that came from Century marked the same exact way.

Probably bubba as mentioned elsewhere, should be 3 or 4 more inches of barrel between front sight and fore stock. Someone didn't like the pig sticker on their M44.

How come I have to expand the pictures 60% to see that? My glasses are only 15 years old, they should still be fine right?

First thing I noticed is the barrel doesn't stick out of the stock very far. Seems like a lot of work for bubba to be able to cut the barrel and remount the original sight though?

Also, I'm happy Century screws up their import marks. I bought my M28/30 for a great price because it was import marked as a M27, so that's what the seller thought it was!

[quote] That is not an "original" m44 front site. It looks shorter like a M38 or M91/30 front site.

+1, the M44 front sight is part of the bayo mount, appears to be an M38 front sight, the base of the front sight attachs via a collar on that rifle, like an M38's.

This one is a mystery to me. The shank stampings looks typical M-44 as well as the date. The stock looks to be M-44. I would like to see more picture of the muzzle area. JYD is probably right though. My 91/38 w/bayonet was import marked as an M-44. I have an M-44 that Century also marked as a T-53. So, it's likely, but not certain, that this is what they say it is - an M-38 but I have seen ex M-44 bubbas altered to M-38 configuration.

In the picture the muzzle is away from the camera making it look shorter... My best guess.
