Okay- here it is, my first Finn mosin. A milestone in any fledgling mosin collection
I picked up the M27 and my LE No. 5 Mk. 1 today, finally released from CA 10 day wait jail.
This rifle is fantastic. The quality and workmanship blows your average Soviet refurb out of the ballpark. The bore is outstanding- sharp rifling and excellent crown. Can't wait to shoot it and give you guys a range report!
The stock is a correct two piece M27 stock, with Popsicle stick front barrel band. A few minor dings, but in beautiful condition.
Reciever- 1917 Tula
Bolt- mix of early Tula and Izhevsk, SN matches barrel
Magazine- later Tula, non matching line out SN
Buttplate- early Tula, non matching SN
Rear sight- Remington spring

Congratulations on getting the rifle out of jail! Very good looking m27 you've got there. Have you opened it up yet to see what the tang date is for the receiver?

Thanks I opened it up at the shop hoping it was pre 1898, so I could take it home without waiting but no such luck. It was built on a 1917 Tula receiver.

Beautiful! another fine looking M27!
Alexander Hamilton, Federalist Papers #29: ...if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens.

Nice rifles! I know this is a mosin forum, but I have a soft spot for jungle carbines. The first full-powered rifle I ever shot was dad's No. 5 Mk. 1 and ever since, I have a liking for hard-kicking rifles.
As long as it is capable of serving its purpose, it will never be obsolete.

Thanks guys. Seems like today was M27 day, Lotema's is beautiful.
Captkirk222- They make a mosin carbine seem tame. My gunsmith called me a glutton for punishment when I told him I got one. I'll start a thread on the No.5 in the collectible military firearm forum when I get this thing cleaned up, it's a mess. I'll be lucky if it shoots straight, it's got a pretty shot out bore. Oh well, I can think of worse ways to spend $150.

1917 was a busy year in Russia. WWI, the beginning of the Revolution. A 1917 Tula receiver is nice.

Thanks guys
Finloq- had to go look up that year in History, you are 100% right. It's always very cool to know. When I pick up these old rifles, I enjoy thinking about where they have been and what they have seen, though I will never know

1917 is also a neat year to have on the receiver of a Finnish rifle since they declared their independence on December 6, 1917!
I'm with you 81turbota, these rifles are nice historical puzzles. Sometimes all the pieces fit and other times they have you scratching your head wondering how that particular piece wound up in your puzzle box!
