Joined the forum to learn about this possible new addiction. Seems like a nice place to learn some things.
I got my Mosin from J + G. Nice experience.

Hello from a old Texan with a nice 1942 Izhevsk mosin nagant. This is my first 91/30. Only got the rifle last week and haven't had time to clean it up yet.

Very nice looking rifle. I'm new to this forum and the mosin nagant rifle. I picked up a 1942 last week and i hope mine looks as good as yours when it is cleaned up :Drool1:

I just purchased my 1st 91/30 Mosin but I didn't until reading A LOT about them from this site which is great by the way.
My first one is a 1940 Tula with all matching numbers with the exception of the mag receiver bottom plate which has a struck out number and the new one added.
Every other number matches.
The bore is nice and clean and the rifling appears to be in perfect condition.
The cleaning rod is intact and all the wood work is in great shape with no signs of being refinished, repaired or patched.
The one thing I could not find on the net in regards to mine is the stamp of BK in front of the serial #.
It does have an import number etched on the receiver (Dot matrix style).
I am looking forward to cleaning it up a little (cosmoline removal) and bringing it to the range.
I did find a nice marking on it, (A #1 in a triangle) which seems to be a positive sign from what I could find online.
Very surprising to find one in such good shape, I know I'll enjoy the Mosin for many years to come.
I wanted one for the fact that I am concerned about the political climate today and wanted at least one Russian made weapon in my collection.
I will post pictures in the proper forum in a week or two as it will take that long to replace my damaged camera.
Thanks for letting me join your group, I am thrilled that such a place is possible.
Welcome to the board
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

Hi,
Rle65 here. I'm a new member and new to mosins. I'm a big civil war and garand collector. After 40 years of collecting that stuff I'm needing a change. So I turned too the mosin spot light. Let's see how it goes.

New Mosin Collector.
Found a pretty Tula that I want to restore a bit and shoot.
The gun and barrel are in good shape but the bayonet and the stock are wrong.
I am also confused about the history of the piece, so I am researching.

Greeting to everyone from the great State of South Carolina.

I acquired, on this past Sunday, a refurbed 1942 Tula with the round receiver. it is in horrible shape having been rescued from a house fire and then stored, uncleaned, for several years in a barn.

How can I tell if it a "diamond in the rough", a wall hanger or something to put a little money into. I paid less than $50 for it.

Thanks one and all.

Ouch, I hope it's not as bad as it sounds, was this rifle actually on fire? If so then the composition of the steel has been changed and it is no longer safe to fire. Pictures would help, open a new thread on the Mosin forum and size the pics down to at least 640x480 before posting them, or link to photobucket.
