Mosin M38. An offer I couldnt refuse
Mosin M38. An offer I couldnt refuse
So even though I just bought some 91/30's, i found an offer for a M38 that I could not refuse. All matching with M38(not a M44) stock for $200
Got it for $180
M38 on top with my Type53 on bottom (Yea I know, ChiCom sling, but it isnt as stiff as the one it came with. I'll change it out when I get it softened up)
The Bore. Looks really good. It's counterbored, but I am pretty sure most M38 were.
the Receiver/Bolt
Pretty sure it's an Izhevsk
And the Import Mark is tiny. PW Redmond, WA

That finnish almost does not look Russian.. Is there by any chance an SA stamp on the side ?? That would make a great deal an unbelievable deal.

This looks to be one of the recent imports from Molot. That could account for the finish.

I would have jumped on it at that price too! Nice find!

Woop woop woop. I mean, wooo hooo! What I am trying to say is that was a great deal. Yep the counterbore is just fine. Part of the history of the carbine, a sign that is has seen some use. And a thumbs up in the accuracy department. It will look really nice when you get that bright green sling changed back out.

Re: Mosin M38. An offer I couldnt refuse
Had someone tell me that it could quite possibly be a late war M38 stock which makes it a bit more uncommon since by then they were all in M44's

Re: Mosin M38. An offer I couldnt refuse
Is there a groove cut along the right top of the forend as on the M44 for the bayonet? If not then it's a M38 stock. M38's could find themselves placed in M44 stocks during the post war refurb, or a field repair late in the war, the Soviets didn't seem to care about the bayonet groove on a M38, it worked fine.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

It is most deff an M38 stock. no groove on the upper right side of the receiver
Had some people on gunboards say that the slings are pressed in sling slot escutcheon possibly making it a late war M38.
Just interesting. whether or not it is, i just love the way it looks.

Very nice, especially the stock. Awesome bore too. I don't think it's a Molot but an EARLY PW ARMS rifle. First time I have seen that import stamp.
