It's been two weeks but got my 1943 Tikka 91/30 today. Overall, I'm mixed in my emotions. It is on a 1898 Sestroryetsk receiver and the metal and wood are both nice but unfortunately the bore leaves a lot to be desired. The previous owner failed to clean the bore after firing corrosive ammo so their was a moderate amount of surface rust with minute amount pitting. A big downer is the fact the front sight will need to be replaced. If I purchased this using my C&R do I have to log it since the receiver is 1898?

I have some questions regarding some features. 1.) Is this an original 91/30 sling? 2.) Can you read the writing. and 3.) Does anyone recognize this mark?

1898 is still an antique, your FFL was not necessary for this purchase. The front sight is damaged? Light pitting is unfortunate but should not stop the rifle from shooting well, but the range test will tell that.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it.

That is one type of Mosin sling, possibly Finn or Balkan, both country's used whatever was on hand for slings.

Damaged, no. It is Missing the post and I was able to be remove it by hand without a tool or punch. Just pushed it out with my thumb...The bolt, magazine and butt stock have been scrubbed of the serial and only barrel retains one.

Pip,
I've got a couple of extra front sights collecting dust in my parts drawer (do you need just the post or post and hood?). If you want one, just lemme' know and pm me your address and it's yours.
